The Sheer Magnitude of Loneliness

In this time, these modern days
we share it all with each other.
Webpages and communitites,
do they help or do they smother?

Here I am - look at me!
I need your confirmation.
Let everybody see
that I am a sensation!

Why do we need to stand out from the rest?
Is it really a privilege to be among the best?
I can't find my place on the local mingle page.
I guess I'm lost in this competition age.

Behind that photo in which you smile at ease,
I know your heart can't beat in peace.
Cause you cry yourself to sleep at night.
It is such a sad, sad, sorrow sight.

And the very next day you smile again.
The flashes make you forget the pain.
It confirms that you still are alive.
It's all a part of your strive to survive.

Maybe we need to exhale, just a bit?
Prove that we haven't lost all our wits.
In these times we need to transgress
the sheer magnitude of loneliness.

I like this poem, i believe it is not one of your best. I like how you say that the internent connects but also supresses. I understand, in life ppl spend more time online rather than just talk to their friends, go for walks, hang out, read books, or learn how to play a musical instrument, or express your artistic side, the internet may help you find some of these things but i think that it is a bit out of hand. I am going to stop ramblin

Zoya Zaidi
It is true, we all are lonely a bit,
That is why we on the internet sit;
We have this need to share our thoughts,
We all want a little bit of critique;
Every one who writes, wants to be read,
And I suppose, that human and need not be suppresed,
But in our endavour to do so,
It is important we don't get carried away,
And spend all our time, sitting on the net...

((((Hugs for the thought provoking write dear Dan!))))
Love, Zoya

Rob Graber
Some good social psychology here! I like especially the second stanza.

Brilliant poem. You are so right. The net is a fantastic tool for writers, if we are going to pursue writing for the rest of our lives and possibly livelihoods, but it occurred to me the other day that every single person who uses the net, chat site, whatever, is or becomes a writer, it is how we make conversation and relate, touch base with friends and enemies alike, make love and war. It is a great space we can all choose to go take part in or not, but balance is everything and if you are alone without other influences keeping you away, it could be a deadly trap.

I have been writing on the net for over four years now and it and the people I have met have truly saved my miserable little life many a time, I one or two in return. It is a surreal and strange dimension to our twenty first century world, which has provided browsers and real writers alike, but everyone a voice, a means of avoiding that out and out lonely feeling.

Writers of the past were isolated, writers of the present don't have to be with the net, but on the other hand, it is much harder to get any real work done!lol

Sorry for rambling, but this is a topic I am very interested in.

Happy Saturday
