My Dear Friend...
Asleep on pillows old and grayA favorite spot to console his day,
He tunes out the world one more time
And awakens only when the clock does chime.
One eye opens, and slowly closes
Like a yellow splash of dainty roses
Breathing their beauty once again
Until the afternoon's summer rain.
As hours pass, and clouds go by
He slowly awaits the evening sky
To roam and slink and find a rat,
This my dear friend, my black cat.
