For you...

As Long As I Believe...

Together we stood
Like a reflection of tomorrow,
Beamed unto the sun
On it's way to the moon.

Together we lived,
Defending what was right,
And wrong, if needed,
But with enduring passion.

We stood as strong,
As we could be until
Twirling winter's storms
Chased the summer away.

It was time to move
From darkness to light,
To ease your soul's pain,
And whisper softly again.

Your time came too soon,
Like a once-in-a-lifetime dream,
Gone to places unknown,
Leaving us both alone.

As long as I Believe,
You will forever be with me,
No matter how far I go,
Inside my heart, you breathe.

Kathy Lockhart
Beautifully written poem of eternal love and life.

A quite tender elegy.
The poem is at its strongest when the writing speaks directly. Elegies (of love) do tend to push metaphors to the extreme.
