Different Year

Alot of spare time to kill,

Walking back and forth,

Nobody else in the house,

Nobody to talk to,

Starting a conversation with yourself,

Talking for hours,

A big smile on your face,

Until you realize your talking to yourself,

Maybe it's time to get out of the house,

Take a walk to the store,

In the cold weather outside,

On the first day of the new year,

Arriving at the store to see it's closed,

Deciding to walk to the next one,

Listening to music as you walk,

Singing with a low voice so no one hears,

And then you come home to the same place you left,

Same quiet room,

Same conversation,

This time ending up going to bed,

1 week of vacation over,

Tomorrow it's back to work,

The same old days,

Just a different year..

I can totally understand this, thats for sure. Same thing year after year. The hours of lonliness with nothing to do noone to talk to. But you can make the choice and do something different, reak away and start fresh.
Nice write.

bleakly looked at the new year. it's routine but we shall ask yourself how can we change how we feel & expect in each new year.respect your point and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

"...and time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping into the future" Steve Miller Band. for some reason that song just started playing in my head after reading your poem. This is full of imagery and feeling.

Well i identify so much with this poem. generally it happens 'cuz of different reasons, but this loneliness makes some poems be born from the bottom of our heart. really thanks for writing in this way. Never stop writing 'cuz it is your soul speaking.

But just a different year.... wy not make a difference in 2007?

Then it will be special for you and those around you. Perhaps that's what you were hoping?
