It's like finding out Santa isn't real
and I want to know,
what makes it different,
so different so
that people make great big
New Year's resolutions
for things they didn't
have the constitutions
to keep the previous
year at all?
But somehow now
they've got the gall,
to do whatever
it takes and more,
to open that one door
and close the other,
the same doors they couldn't
budge with a shudder
or groan
of the strength
they had just the day before
on their own,
or even the minute
before the clock intoned
that it was midnight
and something magical
happened.
I don't understand how,
you couldn't do it then
why can you do it now?
I don't mean to dampen
your "I can" party.
It's just that I
am a little smarty
who has to say
just what I think,
and on this subject
I'm well aquainted
cause I've tried
it for years and
stand quite tainted,
by stupid promises
made to one and all
like, I'll be small
in size by fall.
But bigger I got
and that's a fact.
And no, I never
got paid to act.
And in all these years
I've yet to see
The Grand Canyon
or Mediterranean Sea
My belly still jiggles.
It isn't flat,
and I've accumulated,
not eliminated
more cells of fat.
I still say crap or a
variation there of.
And I haven't written
a book about love.
I haven't written
a book about anything.
As far as that goes,
I haven't even written
any great prose.
So I stopped the farce
years ago.
Reality told me
it's just a show.
There is no magical power
when a new year starts.
Roses are still roses,
and farts are still farts.

New Years' Resolutions' Revelation
It's a brand new yearand I want to know,
what makes it different,
so different so
that people make great big
New Year's resolutions
for things they didn't
have the constitutions
to keep the previous
year at all?
But somehow now
they've got the gall,
to do whatever
it takes and more,
to open that one door
and close the other,
the same doors they couldn't
budge with a shudder
or groan
of the strength
they had just the day before
on their own,
or even the minute
before the clock intoned
that it was midnight
and something magical
happened.
I don't understand how,
you couldn't do it then
why can you do it now?
I don't mean to dampen
your "I can" party.
It's just that I

who has to say
just what I think,
and on this subject
