The Woman In Your Livingroom!

In your livingroom
there is a woman,
sadly looking out
into the nothingness
that surrounds her.

"You are worthless!
There is nothing good about you.
Nothing!"

Another sip of alcohol,
another indifferent drag
at the cigarette.

"I can't do this.
I'm sorry, I just can't."

Outside the sun of summer
is throwing spears of warmth
into each and every one of us.

But in your livingroom
there is a woman.

Thinking about those lines.
The words that changed her life.

Again and again.
And again.

"We'll figure it out, honey! Ok?
It'll all turn out fine, you'll see!"

It didn't.

And now she's in your livingroom.

What are you going to do about it?

I am thinking the poet has cleverly contrived to ambiguate the question of who says what (and who's smoking like a chimney, drinking like a fish), and maybe also of what's on the tube and what's for real. Either that, or the situation needs clarifying! Intriguing...

this leaves me with scenerios pacing through my mind of the answer to the question. I see this as an old black and white film of the '50s. I am intriqued.
