Falling For You
You loomed before me
in all your colorful array
primary colors, earth tones,
sky blue, stone grey
and I wanted you,
despite all the others you had –
all colors, nationalities –
some good, some bad.
all came from the same
dear mother – now, we call you earth –
but here I stand in love
for all it's worth.
As wings carried me –
my soul aloft through aether air,
I'm falling, for you faster, still,
my Lady Fair.
Through vertigo, I spun
tumbling without my self-control
blinded by the rapid rush
towards you, my goal.
There is no return –
I leapt without appeal, nor cause –
no turning back, arms opened wide
to your applause.
Senses in me ceased
when I stopped falling like a fool
abruptly, dead in stepless tracks,
for you, my jewel.
Never shall I fall
in reckless love with anyone
as done with you, dear planet earth
now that it's done.
I jumped before I looked
to see if I were hooked –
but when he shouted "No!"
I thought the sound was "Go!"
I twisted, turned around
and tumbled towards the ground
elated through the air
towards earth, my Lady Fair
your hair, the trees, your locks –
the plains, your skin, the rocks,
your bony joints, the grass –
your gently flowing – ah, yes –
those rivers and those streams
that form in lover's dreams.
Ah, yes, dear Mother Earth,
I fell, for what it's worth –
for you, the fastest route,
without my parachute.
