My youngest daughter just got married and it made me think...so I wrote this

Daddy's Little Girl

I was there when your eyes first saw the world
You were Daddy's little girl
You grew, changed
When you fell from your tricycle
A small scrape
Nothing at all
I kissed your tears away
You told me that you met a boy
Sitting behind you in first grade
He pulled your ponytail
He teased you
Told the other boys stories about you
Then finally he kissed you
He stayed with you
When you were in trouble
When you had that bad year when you were seventeen
Even when you hated him
Telling him you never wanted to see him again
He stayed
He told you how much he loved you
Now I look at you
Daddy's little girl
All grown and lovely
I see your tears though your thin white veil
They are not mine to kiss away
I look at him
He is here for you
He will be the one to take your pain away
And he will kiss away your tears
From this day forward
