Kern River I Swam

I swam this river.
I saw the death of this water
overtake the lives who swam here.

The white of this raging water wanted to
devour its prey.
It swallowed them whole like they were
nothing.

Adults children and babies it wanted.
The more this river got fed.
The more it wanted.
Its hunger gave in and became the
monster of rage.

I saw the bodies floating and death soars
around this river.
Whimpers heard in the distance, then became
screams.

As I was leaving this saddened place, I looked up
and over the bridge.
I saw a diver plunge into the Kern River of death.
He never made it.
The coroner pulled his lifeless body from this monster
of rage.

Now this has taken two-hundred lives and hungering
for more.
Please I say don't give into his hunger, for your life will
be gone also.
