Thinking about Springtime in the Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Appalachian Spring (haiku suite)

mountain waters flow
riffling across cool smooth stones
shedding winter's tears

laurel blossoms bud
upon deep green glossy leaves
'wakening to Spring

black bears rise and roam
foraging for sustenance
their cubs yawn and stretch

fawns on spindle legs
play in soft dewy meadows
bunnies hideaway

Mother Nature breathes
sending fresh earth's aroma
stirring smokey peaks

this is just too beautiful for my words to describe. It is as beautiful as the place you are writing about. I've been there in spring, summer and fall and it is breath taking, aweinspiring and all together magestic. Just like your work. I've never read anything like it.

How I long for Spring and this beautiful spot in tennesee when I read your well-penned poem - I love haiku. Didn't know there was such a thing as Haiku Suite.

My husband lived in Gatlinburg for one year as a Swedish exchange student when he was 18! And we were back there together 25 years ago (during the fall, though) on our honeymoon. Your poem and pic do full justice to a place of great natural beauty!

you've got a nice handle on the spirit of haiku. I just moved a little further east from sevierville. right across the mountains other side of cherokee. spring time is almost here and you've rung it in beautifully.
