Summer is a wonderful time to go to the country, and find a spot to lie on the ground, and 'listen' to nothing but nature's sounds.

Afternoon Sun

The buzz of bees and dragonflies,
Wrangle music out of summer's sky
And sing with crickets and hoppers too,
Scorching in the afternoon sun.

No place escapes this August' bounty,
Under the pine boughs gray-green needles,
Shading dark leaves and grasses and vines
That tangle their way to brightness and light.

For gathered this day in God's oasis
Are temptations and wonders,
And thoughts and dreams,
Wishes and hopes of life it seems.

Like shadows that flash
Across summer's earth,
Hawks and hummers dart in and out
To close the afternoon's door.

Tall trees seem taller on the ground,
As the failing sun drips it's flame
Deeper and deeper toward the moon
As shadows blacken the light of day.

Blankets of dreams and thoughts of cold,
Pushed down by evenings dusty fog
Extinguish all smiles and cries this night,
Taking life away, one second at a time.

"Tall trees seem taller on the ground,
As the failing sun drips it's flame
Deeper and deeper toward the moon
As shadows blacken the light of day"
