End Of The World

Im standing at the edge of the world
Looking for direction, inspiration, motivation
A rustling, as of smooth silk over heartless gravel, calls me
And I turn to meet my sunset
There in her snowy gown is Faith
Caught slipping off
Optimism shouts brightly to her from the coast
And restlessly adjusts his sails
This last abandonment stings the most
And I can feel Doom's whips staying my progress
And condemning me to bright oblivion
Like being entombed in the sad heart of a dying star
As Time's flowing sands are stilled
Now I cross the stones seeking her hands
Those firm yet velvet braces holding up my crumbling life
Yet she averts her eyes from my pleading ones
As if torn by desire to leave and stay
The scales, however, take a vindictive pleasure in tilting away
And my head falls as my hands do, abandoned
There she goes, looking back almost regretfully
She finally goes on, and my eyes follow her across the sea
Dipping her fingers in the water as Optimism sings
As, left on the shore, Dreams choke, stumble and die
Leaving me in a dismal place
At the end of my world.
