Diner Dreams
She sits alone eating at the local diner
lost in a world of her dreams. Her eyes
shine with a tenderness as she imagines
him sitting across from her looking into them
whispering,
"My Angel, I love you."
And, if you were there, you would see a smile
grace her face while in her mind she says,
"My Darling, I love you."
But no one hears and no one sees.
Only this lonely woman, staring off into space
with a hint of peace on her face, lingers in their reality.
Her mind has taken her into a place of tomorrows
where she lives until the emptiness of her
days is filled with the fullness of his love.
She pays her tab and, as she leaves, he opens
the door for her and tells her again,
"My Angel, I love you."
And, if you were passing by her, you would see
her push through the door alone with a wistfulness
about her while in her mind she says,
"My Love, I need you."
But no one hears and no one sees
the tear.
