In the month of March 2007, a team of scientists, art experts and mountaineers from USA Italy and Nepal climbed the High land of Nepal's Mustang Area- at the behest of a Shepard. A stunning art treasure greeted them in caves on a steep vertical height
Treasure in the Rocks
In the remote highland of NepalA shepherd made an unusual addition to his flock:
To take shelter from sudden rainstorm
He entered some mysterious looking caves
Up on the vertical heights of cliffs
Was a treasure of rare paintings
Preserved still; exquisite murals in
Buddhist style, in the genre of
Famous Ajant & Ellora paintings...
Who were these people that centuries ago
Lived in those caves and in high Mustang?
Set in the sheer height of 14000 Feet
Way back in the twelfth century:
A sprawling complex they built
Filled it with manuscripts in Tibetan- script
Pottery, shards and smaller paintings,
Pre-Christian artifacts all stored within...
Must have been peaceful in those mountains
Away from the humdrum of the traffic jams
Away from erratic electricity supply
Water crises, heat and dust and floods
Life must have been inspiring enough
It the lap of nature to produce,
artifacts of such immense beauty and value...
Peace may visit us in the similar manner now
O' Mighty choreographer of our life's mystery...
