i came to think of you, and how happy i wanted to be
like that time i
kissed you with less respect
than usual
[to give you perspective
and a mild touch of tonsillitis]
and i got dressed in your clothes
your belt and a dirty cap
since your shoes were ships
and mine always too small
i pretended to listen
correctly
when all i wanted was to read out loud
from every diary
covered with hearts and red lines
but i was mortified when you smiled
cause you revealed a wolfs grin
that made you look hungry
when all i was was starving
and the way your car mechanic hands
were s a d
and when you grasped for my feet
i fell
ahead
every time
