Lain: Chapter 1.2

Her eyes seemed fluid, and dripped with the rest of her face. The contrast of her forehead turned grey, as the skin was shrivelling. She was melting. Her hand reached out as if she was to grab me, but I jumped back hitting my knee on the car light. The crescent moon hid behind the charcoal clouds, escaping the woman’s rotting eyes.

“A-a-are you ok?” I stuttered.

Her arm dropped, and her lips frowned only slightly, but I could feel deep down the fear she was hiding.

Her fingers began to etiolate and tarnish, and shortly after so did the rest of her body. She left unwillingly as if she was fighting off some disease that was staring at her menacingly. Her face looked calm with my last glance. Her mouth opened and locked again as the fade had just finalised. I could make out the name ‘Alan’.

The shop on my left was graphitised with many fonts, probably from teenagers with nothing better to do. I felt sorry for an instant, but was pushed back to reality when I realised I was standing in the middle of the road. I remembered how the woman stood in my present position and made me break. I was so close to hitting her, and yet she didn’t seem scared, she just looked at me through the windscreen with slit eyes.

The thought made me shut my eyelids and count to ten trying to regain consciousness. Alan. That name crept up on me with utmost curiosity, although my boundaries were scarce. I hadn’t ever met an Alan before.
