These were the instructions printed on the last notebook I bought.
End each line with something solid
Like slamming shut a door
End your poem with a question
But leave them wanting more
If you must tell the truth
Do it sparingly
No one really cares
No one will ever understand
How you felt at that funeral
So don't even try
To explain
Don't use big words, unless you can spell them
Only rhyme
When there's no other choice
In time you'll learn to lie
With expertise unknown
By the lesser mortals
Keep it short and sweet
Only Classics professors read epic poems
You're not here for your MFA
Just one more thing
One more bit of advice
.....give it all away.
