Slipped away
You slipped anchor
at midday
no towboats
called for
no hooting ships horns
no firefighters cascaded
plumes of spray
You heaved to
another shore
and left your berth empty,
we will clear the decks
and another trawler
of the human deep
will be belayed
but I the harbor master
will miss your silhouette
against the sky
and the silent cranes
will nod curfew
ships should slip away
at dawn
going as you did
midday
was going
against the tide
sail away
the sea's your
harbour now
