a response to a friend of mines artwork to be presented at a gallery opening in September
formatting thoughts into pastels
emotions laid thick in swaths along the bare canvas of my self
I see colors
painted across the endless horizon of my life
laid before me like space yearning to be covered
be it pen pr paintbrush;
words or music
I'll detail my mark on existence in bright, bold colors
heaped onto one another to texture my travels in layers
like uneven callous covered hands
that have hefted my soul from the brink of darkness
and thrown it into a sea of shimmering colors
paint them across me
so I can shine like the blinding hues of the setting sun
with every step I place towards it
paint them across me
so I can cover myself in the garish tones of my past
experiences like tattoos inked into skin
and I'll never forget all the beauty of those colors
can't stand to see it as black and white
I need colors
Soothing, entrancing,
enraging and placating;
rattling across my senses
like climbing scales on piano keys
like constructing verse from simple words
like applying in paint everything inside you
I want to see, hear, smell, taste and touch
every color
