a children's poem of sounds and wonder

Life In Rainbow Acres

Across the purple pond
Float lavender lily pads
Fluttering frayed fronds
Grow in patterns pinkish plaid

On the muddy black banks
Croak polka dotted frogs
Signalling to their flanks
To start leaping off their logs

Into the waving waters
They swim in swirly swirls
While orange marmalade otters
Are flirting with otter girls

Bass and baby bluegill
Chase red spiders just for fun
And dragonflies do daily drills
In the velvet setting sun

Candy cane stripped cattails
Purr in perfect harmony
A song of aquatic tall tales
Joined by humming bumble bees

Life in rainbow acres
Goes on in daytime dreams
Of boy and girls and makers
Of imagination schemes.

Otters

A playful lot,
Are they not?

A pleasure!
