So Far Away
Deep inside this electric fog,
Gray and bright, like an old man,
Who cheers on the winning team,
Waters ripple near the stony dam.
A dab of frost has passed this way
As the black cold branches of trees,
Sway and creak in breezes cold
Enough to make bare skin freeze.
A distant sound breaks this mist
From quiet repose to frightful joy
Accompanying something special
That breaks silence like a toy
Stepped on at the end of stairs
Trampled in mystery and odd pain
Meant to be touched and held
In winters snow and blowing rain.
A vision from the grayest gloom
Wanders in from the distant mile
Shrouded in sunlight soft and bright,
His features cause all to stare and smile,
A voice is heard, a ray of gentle light
Illuminate his mind and his soul
Like a fresh spring sonnet or piano song
Singing praises of solid friends of old.
Their arms outstretched in unison
Yearning to pause and inhale this dream
Like a moment in Time's carrousel,
That spins and glows like the moons beam.
Words not spoken, not really needed,
Their souls and lives never again amiss,
Eyes closed and supple lips touching
As together this night, they softly kiss
