"Don't" appears to be one of the most frequent words the average small child hears.

Blossom

Don't!--little boy, don't lose that smile
that stretches all the way across your face--
Don't!--don't ever trade your pacifier for a gun!

Don't!--do not forget the joy of small hands and
strong, sturdy little feet--
Don't!--lose the echo of your first steps pattering across the mat!

Little boy, don't!--don't lose that laughter
that has the power to brighten a day--
Don't!--don't ever forget the joy you find in living!

On the other hand, little boy, DO.
DO grow taller, stronger--older--
Let your wisdom guide you,
let it blossom; you cannot stay a little boy:

Because, the world needs you,
and the man you will become.

Never had kids myself Wildgoose, but your words make me laugh as I remember my nephews and nieces when young! Yes, "don't" was the most frequent word in my vocabulary!
The positive side of your poem is wonderful. Well done.

Elle The PoetBay support member heart!
I have three sons - my two eldest who are twins, were a two man demolition team when they were small! Yet they're great now - show far more sense than their mother - I think, they have turned into beautiful men - but then I am biased - enjoyed this poem - and remember saying don't!
