The Feelings Inside

How many heartaches can one person take,
Outside I smile but inside I break,
The feeling of butterflies is constantly here,
I show no confidence but I exude fear,
Dreams of better times that seem long ago,
The seeds of my downfall scattered and sown.

In my head I know things can turn around,
But in my heart I can only look down,
Bound by sadness and caught by shadow,
These feelings of dread never seem to go,
Chased by the dark and stabbed in the back,
Running in horror at seeing what I lack.

And all in all I can't seem to find,
That once happy place I lost in my mind.

Well expressed, those feelings of just wondering how much more you can take - when at the lowest ebb, it seems so hard to climb back up - but we do.
