Shades of Summer
I shell beans beneath asun bleached awning,
the purple flowered clematis
climbs the wall to peer.
I'm idling under a lazy sun,
while strawberries
wait to be hulled -
a word that makes
me think of sunset seas
and bright boats moored.
It sets a smile on my face.
Nearby a sleepy cat
swipes at butterflies,
the smell of cat mint
his sublime aphrodisiac;
his claws are only half hearted
while I watch shadows cavort
through trees rustling leaves.
The fat aubergine sits,
plumply waiting to be de-seeded,
nasturtium flowers adorn a salad,
each vibrant colour that
nature so wondrously gives.
I soak up the atmosphere
as much as rays
and I paint my palate
in the most glorious shades
