The Ship of Poets
We gathered upon the ship of poets
Sailing in softly peaceful seas
With a captain at the helm
We were as content as we could be
Then came the stormy clouds and waves
The captain no longer around
We the crew of poets grew weary
As the ship was going down
The turbulent sea was deadly
And some began to leave
They jumped into the madness
And others stayed and heaved
On and on we battled hard
And wrote of our discontent
While clinging to each other
We begin to slip and vent
The S.O.S. was being signaled
And some offered their willing hands
But nothing seemed to help us
'til there came one poetic man
He rose above the chaos
And looked at the sails torn
He guided the ship of poets
To find their way through the storm
With the heart of a bard
And the soul of one who cares
He took the helm with strength
And sailed us to weather fair
And now we as his shipmates
Must do what needs to be done
To help this man of conviction
Sail us on into the rising sun.
