my first working villanelle
I discern in the distance a soaring horn call
A melody stirs in my heart and I play
When the first song was written, how fair was the day
How lovely the notes when man first heard them fall
Floating so soft on a breeze far away
The song I must follow; please, PLEASE let it stay
It makes me completely, it gives me my all
As the melody stirs in my heart and I play
I try to stay true, yet often I stray
The song pulls me back, It won't let me stall
An oddly firm grip, for a breeze far away
When Winter is deep and the world too long grey
When the air- frozen solid- slows time to a crawl
A melody stirs in my heart and I play
When I come to the end of my life I will pray
For the music to blanket my soul like a shawl
As I feel the caress of the breeze far away
The music will stir; once more I will play
