I was sitting in a rather resplendent coffee house one summer afternoon, and noticing a lady of whom I have been longue enamoured, the following lines came to mind...
Her eyes, without the blemishes of tears,
Bring Autumn to her door to praise their hue,
And in a gaze such artistry appears,
That higher worlds express a presence, too,
Though temper puts these treasures in arrears,
The storms are brief, and calm will soon ensue:
And then they have a most enearing virtue,
That seems to say "I have no wish to hurt you."
2
And though she does, it's seldom cruelly meant,
More a show of power to warn all men,
Who doubtless wonder where their worship went,
Along with crimes against her now, and then -
Of which they should most graciously repent!
And I will state with my slight acumen:
That women, they resent being understood,
Because it does their mystery no good....
