The Dance
She sits there on the bleachersWatching everyone else dance
Every couple is out there
Swaying lightly across the floor
Their feet move in sync
Their eyes are so close together
His hands on her waist
And her hand on his shoulder
The girl's face blushes
As the boy looks into her beautiful eyes
They sway silently
As if their feet aren't touching the floor
Sitting there alone
Her eyes get misty
She remembers the time
When this was supposed to be hers
She was asked to the dance
By the one she loved
But then he never showed up
To lead her into the slow, sad music.
She goes down the bleachers
Almost ready to cry
She half way across the gym
When someone catches her arm.
She slowly turns around
And is shocked to find him there
He looks so content
And she looks scared
He asks her to dance
And waits for an answer
But all she can do
Is let a tear slowly roll down her cheek.
He looks into her eyes
As if saying "Everything will be alright"
He wipes away her tear with his soft finger
And leads her onto the dance floor
They stop in the middle
And he twirls her around
Catching the side of her waist
And leads her hand into his shoulder
"I can't dance" she persists
He just smiles and said,
"Thats alright, I'll help you."
She smiles and looks at their feet.
She concentrates on the movement
And which way they are going
She trips once, and almost ran out crying
But he just kept right on dancing.
After she got the hang of it
She looks up into his eyes
He was already watching her
And looked wondered and amazed.
"Whats are you looking at?" she asks quietly.
He leans closer, lips barely touching, and whispers,
"You".
She stared at him for a long moment, but finally smiled.
The song was over too quickly
But they stayed there swaying
Not caring if anyone was watching
They stayed there dancing,
Until the girl finally opened her eyes.
