An ode to the painkillers that make living (Pain) so much easier to deal with.

My Pain, My Life

Listen to my pills,
Hear them sing a song,
I think I'll have another,
Even if it's wrong.

Sadly, I could not care less
Myself and the thoughts I caress
In a room within the layers of my thoughts
In the confines of that room
With a pen in hand
Ticking away the grains of sand

Existing nowhere,except in my mind
A world where I am at once,King and Jester,
Criminal and Executioner,
Landlord and Tennant.

Sadly, all the hours pass away
Unlike the pain which lives for another day.

Sweet pills, although the instructions tell me not to
In my pain and sorrow, I guess I forgot to
Follow the recommended number of pills to swallow
Feeling sombre, gloomy, and just a tad hollow.
I only have to wait an hour
Dear pills, play me one more strain,
Perhaps the last of your sweet song
I think I'll have another even if it's wrong.

Pain killers do numb the brain of the sort of pain you seem to be describing here Jack! but as they are described, and prescribed, they are killers in the end. And we are the killer and the killed, the walking dead or not, it is our choice.

We all feel sometime that we have to walk a certain path, which gives us the feeling of personal grief the rest of our lives. I know a great pain killer, it is called love, its the best healer on the planet. Loving yourself first, accepting yourself, is our first task in life, imo. Love and you will be loved back to the best you can be.

I live with pain most of my life, physical pain, due to partial nerve damage, but I refuse to go completely the pharmacheutical route in dealing with it. Rest, relaxation and natural remedies are there for us to use too, and lots and lots of love of course.

Great poem, had a endearing tune through its rhythm and rhyme, welcome to

Tranquil poetbay

Loads of lovely people writing here.

Smiling at you

You describe the chronic-pain sufferer's condition very well!
This is a poem that I can definitely relate to!
