I just started typing and this came out.
Dancing, it cuts in
and takes a partner from
a tree branch.
The three-leaf twig is helpless
as it joins others of its kind
in the twirling arms of the
gusting vortex.
Down the street, over the highway
across the river.
A journey of a lifetime.
Lying on a grassy bank
looking at the grey-green water
the twig is aware
of the death that will soon
over take him.
Though his was a short life
he has decided
it was a worthy life.
He no doubt experienced more
in the short time he breathed
that those family members
he left on the tree
so far away,
will experience in their entire cycle of
natural life.
No, his leaves will not
change color.
He will miss that miracle.
But he didn't miss this miracle.
He flew! And not just to the ground or
next yard.
But across the land and water.
Yes! This was a life well lived.
And, for that he would thank
his creator, who had taken
note of his venture
and was ready to
reward his attitude and gratitude
with the original and still best
recycling program.

Gone With The Wind, A Twig's Story
