Total recall ;-)
I spent an hourtrying to recall your name,
worried that my mind was slipping,
dipping out of sight.
I thought of Henri and Julie,
all of us behind the
green and flakey door,
swapping cheap wine
and takeaways,
swearing about a conductor
with a small man's inferiority.
Certain, I had lost my mind
and I couldn't find
even a rhyme to make
me remember.
It came to me at
2.00 am,
the overnight rails
that rattled the television,
an oven we never used.
Midnight in the bistro
sitting with the owner,
the one you accused
of lusting after me,
except, he was just kind
and threw you out
when you brawled.
I stalled for a moment
and recalled your name -
I heard you're selling
le creuset pans in Japan,
there is, I think
some irony there.
