Have you ever despaired about modern communication?

No man is an island

I see an ad or job vacancy,
They say send an e-mail,
I want to speak to the boss,
An ansaphone says send an e-mail,
We argue and I want to say sorry,
You say send an e-mail,
I want to complain to my council,
An ansaphone says send an e-mail,
I need to lie down and talk to my therapist,
She asks soothingly: 'Do you have e-mail?'

I do as I'm told and send all the e-mails,
I look every day for a reply but the inbox
Is as white as a new document page,
It dawns on me that e stands for ether...

...this morning I wrote a message onto
A piece a paper, rolled the message up,
Put it into an empty wine bottle,
Rammed down the cork and now
I'm just waiting for the tide to come in.
