A modern folk song.

Fruits

The lemon is a bitter, bitter tree,
It cries for you, it cries for me,
The fruit is ripe, about to burst
But it can't quench our lovers' thirst.

The apple is a jolly, jolly tree,
It laughs for you, it laughs for me,
The fruit is red-faced and round
And tempts our love on the ground.

The pear is a heavy, heavy tree,
It groans for you, it groans for me,
The fruit is sweet and soft inside,
Just like you, my autumnal bride.

The cherry is a busy, busy tree,
It spreads for you, it spreads for me,
The fruit is many, the taste is mild,
And next Spring we'll have a child.
