A mid August Day in the country

Dog Days Arrive

Summer heat shimmers
on blacktop roads
cicadas shrill and many
taunt

Salty skin glimmers
on brown tree toads
as they bounce their fanny
to flaunt

The sky stripes blue
with clouds strung out
around the glaring sun

A faded hue
that is forced to shout
the dog days have just
begun!
