The Fountain of Living Water

She is staring through the window,
The land is hard and dusty,
She thinks in her heart,
Why the land is hopelessly barren?
Where does the rain water go?
Why dosen't it hold back all the rain,
So that it may not thirst again.

She scans her heart to get the conclusion,
She realizes the answer lies in herself,
She is just like the barren thirsty land,
Which couldn't produce any life but hopelessness,
She always thought that the happiness laid in the strong arms of a man,
So she switched from one to another in persuit of her happiness,
But she remained still the same-barren and thirsty.

She wondered why all the happiness is short lived,
Like the drops of water fallen on the ground,
Is the land cursed and so am I?
Who'd take out the curse from my life,
So that I can feel the happiness,
That never ends but flows throughout my life,
Generating happiness for eternity.

All these rambling thoughts going in her mind,
She takes the pot and steps out in the scorching heat,
She wished not to meet anyone at the well,
She had become tired of seeing people wishpering to each other,
And some reproving her in foul language to get lost,
So she had decided not to be humiliated anymore,
And chose this hour to fetch water.

As she approached to the well,
She noticed a Jew sitting by the well,
But the Jew was a stranger,
She felt comfortable and silently went into the well,
As she came out of the well her pitcher filled with water,
The man asked her water,
She remained perplex'd glancing at the man.

This was first time in her life,
A Jew asking water from her,
Out of curiosity she explained the situation to the man,
But he spoke to her of the Living Water,
That springs forth from one who drinks it,
Into everlasting life.

She desired it as she no more want,
To visit this well in scorching heat,
Instead the man unfolded every secrets of her life,
And also told that God should be worshipped in spirit and in truth,
All these things reminded her of Mes-sias or Christ,
About Whom she had read in scripture.

The man reveals Himself being the One,
About Whom she had read in scripture,
The instant she believed Him and worshipped Him,
The moment she felt the Living Water flowing within her,
And felt the happiness she longed for throughout her life,
Now she became a new woman with a new life,
All her hesitation and guilt gone,
She runs towards the city to tell the people,
About the man Who had made such a great change in her Life.

I've never heard this story before. But it made me think of a prayer I know. Thank you.

Phyllis J. Rhodes
This brought tears to my eyes and chills to my body. The story of the "woman at the well" has never been told so completely. The events of her life and her thoughts and her heart has been brilliantly depicted here. I am in awe of your piece, which I believe came through you from the Holy Spirit of God. I say, Amen.
