I'm not even sure myself what I'm getting at here...

Sudden Debt

Stumbling in the woods I fell upon a man
And taut arms pulled me down against his side
And like a troubadour he sang his song for me
"As I'm a man, what can I but a comfort be?"

**********

He shivered his assent and slowly reached my hand
And as I held it there I saw he cried
In desperate gratitude he trembled silently
"My life this night rests safe in sudden debt to thee."

Anne Westlund
I really like this. It makes me wonder what the rest of the story is.
Very lyrical!
