Memories
Memories of long ago are easy to recallThe first day when with tearful eye I trotted off to school
Of conkers and gob stoppers, and marbles by the score
Of bombs and air raid shelters a countryside at war
Reminiscences in profusion
From the recesses of my brain
The mind rejects the bad thoughts
The good ones still remain
The friends collected on the way
Are easy to recall
Of Christmases and holidays
I'm remembering them all
Of that first date of that first kiss
Those placid days of teenage bliss
A kaleidoscope past half closed eyes
Memories easy now to visualise
But with these thoughts of yesteryear
There's one thing puzzles me
With all these recollections
Why can't I just remember
What I had for tea.
