It happens always, no exception
Wood is cured
protected
by paint made
from minerals and animal oils
and for centuries
the houses
lived and breathed
and paled gently in the summer light
and were brushed and painted again
and held against the tooth of time
the winter frosts and summer glare
then came the modern time
and coats of numb and breathless plastic
the living coats were glossed over
by the nincompoops of modern days
and sealed the wood
choked the pores
enclosed the natural humidity inside
the plastic skin
and the wood began to rot
the houses began to suffocate
and the topcoats peeled away
once the wood beneath
was beyond repair
sic transit gloria mundi
yes
it is all and the same
all glory pasted on
to living breathing beings
peels off
in time
the glory of public plastic opinion
glosses for a while
but kills for ever
what it coats
for just a time
