Sometimes we make promises we wish we hadn't.

Lamentable Vows

Call to me with taunting breath
I will not haste to come to thee
Woo me with promises
of all that you will do for me
Chide me with guilt
it will only make me want to flee
Seduce me with images
of what you can make of me
Hold me accountable
to vows on which we did agree
Still I will faulter
not giving in to your fervent plea
Demand that I capitulate
and with a great degree
of consternating consternation,
off to thee, thou gym I'll be

Lavender
I jolly well enjoyed this poem because it is joyful and I admire the rhyming you created with your wit and wisdom, good Poet. I loved reading about you on your page. I, too am a newspaper columnist in California.

A delight to meet you!
