the suffering is too big for me to comprehend so i write in lower case letters in this attempt to grasp the enormity of this disaster.

the bells of haiti

in the still of early morning
just past the last strike of twelve
a new day will be dawning
in the hours of the bells

ring on bells of champions
ring on bells of hope
ring on bells of peace
help us all to cope

in the jolt of the earth erupting
just past the day of days
upheaval stirs a calling
and death has come to play

ring on bells of heroes
ring on bells of death
ring on bells of sorrow
while a babe take his first breath

in the chaos of the living
as soldiers bring relief
wounded now are crying
while covered in their grief

ring on bells of misery
ring on bells of thirst
ring on bells of the hungry
as the conditions grow worse

in the darkness of the weeping
as the dead sleep along the road
life is riddled with the creeping
of despair into the living souls

ring on bells for food and rations
ring on bells for the maimed and poor
ring on bells for great compassion
as the world unites in giving more

Thank you for your heartfelt words of true compassion and thoughtfulness, a wonderful soul you are. I wondered who would be the one that reminded us just how precious life is; in the blink of an eye gone! No one could have said it better, no one. You took me there, places I dare not travel, remember or reflect; I must if I am to remain humane. Morning says be blessed each day for the now is all we can depend on each second.

Bless you dear poet

Kathy, thank you for this tribute. I hope those bells never go silent. Let us never forget our brothers and sisters sleeping and weeping under a starry sky this night....

My God help them all Kathy! A beautiful write, in your attempt to deal with such enormous tragedy.

We must give everything they need. I cannot understand the delays though...so close to america and the other side of that land, being so luxurious. Indeed, a terrible tragedy.

With respect

Beautiful expressions of tragedy and disaster. The loss of humanity is overwhelming. This poem peals out into that darkness of incomprehension, making it real to us.

such a terrible loss..their buildings like blocks
They had no chance when your countries
buildings arent earthquake proof,I had to turn it off
Natural disasters happen every day, even some never
get air time..but this was such a wide range of death
devastation. The News is like flea's on a hound...
I pray and hope they get the support from all over the Globe
Its funny how natural disaster, worlds come together but
when it comes to War,Poverty,hunger,..I dont know what I am saying but,if the world had a natural disaster a Dooms day...Maybe that would bring peace among us all,be one country. We all would be looking out for each other then!!

Great write,I pray for all the people of Haiti and foreigners visiting their beautiful country.they find comfort and healing from this terrible torture

This is beautiful in it's truth, sorrow and hope, so difficult to comprehend the magnitude of this catastrophe and I want to be part of the uniting world.
