You had to be there. 8-)
He,
being determined to do his homework 100%
and test the theory that life is all just a "conversation"
threw himself with all his strength
at the wall
Part of the "conversation" that the wall was
turned out to be Hard
but in his determination
to "distinguish the distinction"
he decided that a few more experiments were in order ...
Buses, taxis and solid iron doorways all turned out to be Hard
and other human beings turned out
to be Angry
Or,
to say the same thing more "accurately", he thought
turned out to be Punching His Face In
Not, however,
being stopped
by the feelings in his body
which turned out to be Bruised, Throbbing and Aching All Over
he decided that one further
experiment was in order
The rhinoceroses in the safari park
turned out to be A Lot More Agile Than He Had Expected
Ah Ha! he thought - an "unfulfilled expectation"
Realising that it was not really the rhinoceroses that he was upset about
didn't seem to help very much -
he knew that he needed to get to the "source of the upset"
but he couldn't remember ANY "earlier similar incidents"
He decided to "declare a breakdown"
"This is a breakdown in the space of my commitment!"
he shouted as loudly as he could
at one particularly ferocious-looking rhinoceros
charging straight at him
The rhinoceros slowed abruptly.
Jesus! he thought. That must be a breakthrough!
But it turned out to be a Hesitant Rhinoceros
The rhinoceros renewed the attack
Conversation for being related?
Conversation for possibility?
Conversation for opportunity?
He couldn't for the life of himself work out which one was missing
He was vaguely aware that his relationship with the rhinoceros
was not all to be desired
I know, he thought, I need to BE with him
He looked the rhinoceros straight in the eyes
arms gently by his sides
as the beast trundled towards him
The "background conversation" that the rhinoceros was being
turned out to be Unaffected
by his state of composure
The conversation that its horn was
looked distinctly Dangerous
He had a few brief moments to "try on the interpretation
'Shows Up As Dangerous' "
before the full force of the five tonne rhinoceros
struck him at thirty miles per hour in the stomach
and what was left of his body was thrown
a hundred paces onto an electric fence
The rhinoceros, he decided,
was definitely "on it"
All the same, as the beast gathered itself for another attack
he couldn't help but admire its Relentless Commitment To "Complete Work"
Fortunately he was rescued by someone whom he imagined
had more powerful distinctions in handling rhinoceroses
As he drifted into unconsciousness
he wondered to himself
what to tell the guys at the evening session
He wasn't at all sure
what new opening he had had
