Sometimes, for fun, I choose a word at random from the dictionary and write about it. This time the word was "grain."

Grain

Born of bareness or of fertility?
Experimentation and control
Or the incidental manipulation of life?
Protection against shortfall
Or self incarceration and enslavement?

Edible, storable, tradeable, hoardable.
The domicile of power and inequality
Of private property and poverty.

The rise of the State
Written law, Order
A burgeoning and exponential populace
Bound and compelled by the arithmetic of production.

Rob Graber
The power of population--wonderfully Malthusian! Line 6 is especially effective, I think.
