With apologies to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
By the shores if Hackney Marshes
Stood the building of the council
Dark behind it rose the tower block
Rose the dark and dreary tower block
Rose the thirteen storey tower block
On the seventh floor there lived a driver
For the London transport buses
Red and double decker buses
Driver of the "forty eight"
Always there and never late
Leroy Watha and wife Alopecia
He a driver she a teacher
On the seventh floor of the dreary tower block
Seven floors nearer to Heaven
But today there is a letter
It's a brown en-veloped letter
An important looking letter
Opening up with breakfast teaspoon
Leroy wonders what's the contents
Are they dreadful, searing contents?
Are they demanding, awesome contents?
With shaking hands he reads the letter
Starting off with council headings
Banal, innocuous council headings
Find me on my Web site headings
Then at last the essence of the contents
The brown en-veloped letter
But the news is for the better
Mr Watha here's an offer
An interesting council offer
On the thirteenth floor there is an apartment
A more attractive spacious apartment
Rooms with panoramic views
Now it's up to you to choose
Avail yourself then of this offer
Then you'll be much higher Watha.
