just in passing


The innocence of the ice-cream cone


 

grubby hands  handing over 
grubby notes 
too short to reach the counter 
but they know what they want

   three balls 
is better than two  and 
what a lot of licking 
what glorious splendour 
of taste and chill

   real vanilla ice 
strawberry sherbet  
Stratiatella...

   three balls 
gelato  the real thing 
and innocence 
maintained   resolutely 


two balls licked



would get me

into trouble
