Darkness Beneath The Light
I looked up at the sky.
The night sky was full of light,
Of different colours, of different shades.
Fireworks and diyas had enlightened the world around me.
Yet darkness seemed so prominent,
When the light was out for a second.
The black shadow beneath the flame-
Carried so many blames.
The boy on the other side of the road,
With torn trousers but a real heart,
Gazed above, at those on the high rise terrace; With lovely trousers but lonely hearts.
He saw them blast the crackers; Saw them lighten the sky-
But didn't envy, instead enjoyed with a smile.
Those on the terrace, envied the boy, envied his smile.
They envied his happiness, envied his freedom-
But hated his deprived life.
But the little boy, ignorant of their feelings-
Enjoyed the firework and smiled.
He saw the light, not the darkness of his life.
He felt the breeze but ignored the chill of the night,
He lived his life and overcame the sorrows.
He found happiness with the precious gift,
Of the golden smile.
I saw the boy standing by the lamp post.
I saw the calmness in his face.
I asked God," Why do you give one everything but no heart?
And one nothing, but a beautiful heart?"
The sound from the crackers filled my ears.
I looked up at the sky,
Just to see the real stars,
Out shone by the artificial lights.
