I Wish You Were Here Tonight
It's Friday night and I'm all alone.I tried to reach you on the phone.
"Leave a message at the tone"
That's what the voicemail said.
I had to get out, away from here.
I walked to the bar to drink a beer.
There was nothing there to cheer.
The whole damned place was dead.
Oh, How I wish you were here tonight.
We'd dance out on the deck in the pale moonlight.
A glass of wine, your hand in mine,
Would be such a delight.
Oh, how I wish you were here tonight.
I stumbled home, stared at the screen.
Infomercials pitching some new machine.
"But wait, there's more" I heard him scream.
Where do they find these guys?
Out on the deck, I counted stars.
They seemed so close, but were quite far.
It reminded me of how we are.
Tears filled up my eyes.
Oh, How I wish you were here tonight.
We'd dance out on the deck in the pale moonlight.
A glass of wine, your hand in mine,
Would be such a delight.
Oh, how I wish you were here tonight.
Don't you know that from the start
You captured my beating heart?
I wish we weren't so far apart.
Sometimes I want to cry.
Good things come to those who wait.
I, for one, believe in fate.
We met for a reason, there's no debate.
Someday we'll both know why.
Oh, How I wish you were here tonight.
We'd dance out on the deck in the pale moonlight.
A glass of wine, your hand in mine,
Would be such a delight.
Oh, how I wish you were here tonight.
