I've run into poetry that is just too complex for me. Is poetry always poetry? Is it up to the reader to find the sense in it? I've wondered if poets ever bluff; write nonsense and count on no one being willing to admit they don't get it. Sometimes tho


The Emperor's New Poems*

Fiddle stix!
There it's said,
and now I can
go to bed.
I've read a lot
of tripe tonight
and tried to gild it
in my head.
But what's the use
if I don't get it?
Should I continue
to pretend?
Nonsophisticate
I admit it,
but why should that mean
I have sinned?
Never mind,
I'll try again
There might be something
between the lines.
There it is.
Well I will be!
the space between
near shines!
But nothing's there
that'll clue the nerds
so I guess I'll look
between the words!
