Never again
Never again in dark daysfraught with grey winter
– ruffled sparrows
crouch in bushes heavy with snow –
never again
will I refuse murky memories
their place
in days of no more.
Windy longing rolls in drifts
and mocks all meaning
– bright seagulls
dazzle like flashing swords –
the sea is a frozen mistress
with bars of cast iron
holding back
the coming of eye's expansion.
