Fairly recently, I was pushed out of a relationship by a close friend. This inspired some of the insights for this.

The Show

That was you, up at the front remember?
A flick of the wrist, taking, making more,
Sleight of hand, and the double entendre,
People's mouths agape, looking up in awe.

You had it all, but boy did you earn it,
You found the self confidence, and the style,
Saw the skill, and you set out to learn it,
Made it look easy, if just for a while.

It took you so far, left the others dazed,
You couldn't have known another would rise,
Who studied the trick, a young protégé,
But when the student grows, the master dies.

Put on your armour, grab your morning star,
Saddle the horse, time for your last hurrah.

Intriguing what one can read into this, and the sonnet form sets the stage well. Nicely done.
