Die Hard

When asked the ways I'd like to die
I always find a reason why
Fond memories I'll always keep
Of Grandpa dying in his sleep
He went without a fuss
Not screaming and shouting like people on his bus
One thing to be avoided if one can
Is being shot by an irate man
There are many ways to leave this life
But not being caught in flagrante with his wife
At my wake no doubt my folk
Will tell anecdotes and joke
About me being sorely missed
Amid merrymaking and getting drunk
But perhaps one kindly sole will say
He used to write for PoetBay

Being "of a certain age" this is something I too think about . . . wondering what memories my children and grandchildren will have. It occurs to me that perhaps I haven't taught them all that much in my years, but in some way I can't (and don't want to) know, I will teach them how to die. I can only hope to do it well.
